Fast, high-quality storage is a must-have for any new gaming build in 2021. The widespread adoption of the PCIe Gen 4 standard in at least one M.2 slot on new motherboards has driven rapid innovation as tech innovators seek to squeeze out every drop of performance on offer. Further advances, such as Direct Storage, are due to arrive in the near future and these should enable performance-seeking PC users to take advantage of the blistering speeds now on offer through PCIe storage. The new MSI SPATIUM – High-performance PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs are arriving at just the right time!
The new MSI SPATIUM drives include the M480, M470, and M370, which provide options for both Gen 4 and Gen 3 PCIe. Each of these drives uses the widely-adopted compact M.2 2280 form factor, which makes them suitable for a wide range of desktop builds or laptop upgrades. MSI have opted for high-quality, high-density 3D NAND flash across the SPATIUM range in an effort to deliver both performance and endurance.
MSI SPATIUM M480
Leading the pack is the MSI SPATIUM M480, which takes a no-holds-barred approach to the fight for the PCIe 4.0 speed crown. PCIe Gen 4 combined with the NVMe 1.4 standard enables the SPATIUM M480 to unleash extreme transfer speeds up to 7000 MB/sec sequential read and a whopping 6850 MB/sec sequential write speed. That is the same read speeds and faster sequential writes than even the popular Samsung 980 PRO!
The MSI SPATIUM M480 comes in three storage capacities – 500GB, 1TB and 2TB.
MSI SPATIUM M470
The MSI SPATIUM M470 seeks to become the mainstream champion. Like the M480, it uses the latest PCIe Gen 4 interface to deliver blazing-fast speeds. With up to 5000 MB/sec sequential read and 4400 MB/sec sequential write, the M470 delivers excellent performance for the masses!
The MSI SPATIUM M470 comes in large 1TB and 2TB versions.
MSI SPATIUM M370
The MSI SPATIUM M370 is the new entry-level offering in the PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD market. It uses the PCIe Gen 3 interface, which makes sense for the vast majority of motherboards that contain at least one Gen 3 M.2 slot.
While not able to match the absurdly fast performance of its PCIe 4.0 brothers, the MSI SPATIUM M370 still delivers up to a very respectable 2400 MB/sec sequential read and 1850 MB/sec sequential write speed. Users upgrading from SATA SSDs (and especially those moving from spinning disk HDDs) will very much appreciate the difference this makes!
The MSI SPATIUM comes in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB versions.
All of the new MSI SPATIUM SSD products support a comprehensive range of data error correction features including LPDC ECC and E2E Data Protection, providing a high TBW (Terabytes Written) for excellent durability and longevity. A limited 5-year warranty is consistent with most quality consumer NVMe M.2 SSDs on the market today.
