My Sunday Photo – Dotonbori Nightlife

My Sunday Photo for this week is titled Dotonbori Nightlife

I have finally gotten around to processing my photos from last year’s Japan adventure. We had the most amazing time on that trip, but it feels like it was so long ago already. Looking through the photos was a great reminder of all fun times we had.

I have already used a Dotonbori photo for a My Sunday Photo post, but I thought this week I would take you deep into the unique world of the Dotonbori nightlife. Keep in mind that these photos were taken at about 9pm on a Sunday night. I had the distinct feeling that the place was just starting to warm up! Each of these photos was taken with the tiny, but brilliant Sony RX100 compact camera.  Click on each photo for the full-sized image.

The place actually has to be seen to be believed, and I know that my photos cannot truly do it justice, but the following are at least a couple of snippets into the neon lights, the incredible food and the unbelievable hoards of people that are drawn there like moths to a (very large) porch light.

Why are so many people shopping at this hour on a Sunday night?

… no, I don’t know what that ad is all about either.

Everyone knows Spider-Man loves giant clams.

The entrance to Doutonbori Street. I don’t know why it is spelt differently. Also, notice the giant crab? Bet you can’t guess what that restaurant sells.

The footprint of Dotonbori may be small, but I can assure you that we are just scratching the surface with these photos. It is an incredible place and well worth the visit if you ever get a chance.

Certainly looks like the Japan of the movies. Look forward to seeing more of these images.

Thanks John. There is definitely a movie-set quality to the whole area. It doesn’t feel quite real.

Just a bit! I don’t think “sleepy” could ever be used to describe Osaka.

I always think Japan looks like London only 10x crazier, I just can’t imagine what it must be like out there let alone travelling with a little one. #MySundayPhoto

That’s about right! It was a great place to travel with a toddler. Everyone was so friendly towards her (and us). Also, she was in bed by the time things started to get crazy outside.
