Wi-Fi 6 is the next big thing in wireless routers, with big performance gains possible over previous generations. If you are in the market for a new Wi-Fi router, the D-Link DIR-X1860 AX1800 and DIR-X5460 AX5400 are definitely worth a look.
Both the D-Link DIR-X1860 and DIR-X5460 combine high-speed 802.11ax Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 6) with dual band technology to provide a seamless networking experience with the highest degrees of speed, range and flexibility. The new D-Link Wi-Fi routers fully utilise the 5GHz and 2.4GHz channels to provide vast bandwidth and ultra-fast combined speeds of up to 5400Mbps for the DIR-X5460 (4,800 Mbps + 600Mbps) and 1800Mbps for the DIR-X1860 (1200Mbps + 600Mbps).
D-Link DIR-X1860 and DIR-X5460 – Wi-Fi 6
Wi-Fi 6 routers are designed to provide cutting-edge performance (known as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access, or OFDMA) in modern, device-saturated homes by providing fast, simultaneous data throughput to multiple devices for seamless performance. This means that data-intensive tasks such as 4K steaming, VR gaming and cloud-storage access can occur simultaneously throughout the home (as long as your NBN connection is up to the task).
Built-in power amplifiers, MU-MIMO and beamforming should ensure that the signal from the DIR-X5460 or DIR-X1860 is strong and reliable, even with plenty of devices demanding a slice of the bandwidth pie.
The D-Link DIR-X5460 and DIR-X1860 routers are more efficient too. BSS Colouring makes transmissions more unique, resulting in less interference and more range in congested Wi-Fi environments. Target Wake Time (TWT) efficiently schedules transmissions for client devices, meaning they know when to be ready for data and when to take a break, increasing your devices’ battery life.
D-Link have used the same great app as with the COVR Wi-Fi Mesh System that I recently reviewed, to setup and manage the new Wi-Fi 6 routers. I really appreciated the simplicity of the app in getting non-technically-minded users up and running quickly and effectively, so I’m pleased to see it available for the DIR-X routers too. It has plenty of options for customisation, including restricting network access and priority (Quality of Service) settings. There are also Parental Controls, which should be something all us parents insist on having in a home router.
Finally, security is a top priority for the D-Link DIR-X5460 and DIR-X1860 routers. Both routers support the latest Wi-Fi security with 128-bit encryption, and both automatically check daily for updates to make sure that the devices always have the latest features with the most secure firmware. They install updates silently in the background, with failsafe backups used to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted experience.
The DIR-X1860 and DIR-X5460 are available now from D-Link Australia (www.dlink.com.au) and authorised D-Link Partners and Retailers.
